Google’s New Privacy Guide Aims To Make Chrome Settings Simple

Google Chrome is the most widely used web browser in the world, serving more than two-thirds of total desktop users throughout the world. With a scale where we rely on the internet today, instinctly feel that our data is being used – or worse, misused – by large companies like Google. Fortunately, Google Chrome allows you to change settings, offering user control over the data collecting and the extent to which, but this control is often too technical or complicated for the average user to monitor themselves. To alleviate this, Google now adds a privacy guide, which offers step-by-step visual instructions to help users understand the benefits and impacts of each setting in the Privacy Center and Chrome Security Center.

The new Privacy Guide is being implemented in Chrome 100 and is expected to launch all users in the coming weeks. When the user first opened privacy and security settings in Chrome following the update, they will see a new card that helps them navigate through the Privacy Guide. If the user does not have enough time to pass through all the privacy guidelines at once, Chrome will save their progress and allow them to continue the next time they open it.

Explaining benefits and impacts of Chrome’s Privacy Guide

Privacy Guide, Google said, has been built on GSEC or Google Security Engineering Center. On the blog, the Chrome Audrey product manager adds a guided tour will help users learn the benefits of the privacy feature in Chrome. But more importantly, it will help them reveal the potential of “implications” and “trade-off” when turned off. The privacy guide will bring users through pros and cons of settings such as cookies, synchronization history throughout the device, browse safe, and the option “Create a better search and search” that sends Google to a list of all the websites you have visited.
